Brokeback Mountain>

believe it or not, tis movie is like english literature to me... back in sch when i did eng lit we had to analyse the characters and the development of the plot... one of the bks we had to do was shakespeare's macbeth.. eng lit wasnt one of the easiest subject to do but it lets u learn the complexities of human characters... and brokeback mountain had the same effect on me.... i tink GP (general paper = english equivalent subject in junior college) and HRM (human resource management) are comin back to me now also hahaha.. where i luved to choose topics on society and humans and emotions to write on....

men are regarded as the epitome of masculinity.. fr caveman age all the way till now... men r supposed to be breadwinners... they r supposed to be brave and not shed a tear and not show any form of weakness... but in this show masculinity is questioned.... muz guys not have any emotional outbursts? muz always be strong and silent? in this show, cowboys are regarded as the ultimate male symbol in america.... so all the more they hv to suppress their innermost emotions...

jack is the dreamer in the show.. he is not really good at anything... he can't ride, he can't shoot, and he can't cook.... but he is open wif his feelings and constantly shows concern for pple.... he meets ennis who has lost his family since young... tho he had siblings to take care of him he din really hv anyone to shower much care for him when he grew up... and then comes this time when they had to eke out a living by carryin out a task... they can oni depend on each other up on the mountain wif nth but sheep to protect and coyotes to blast.... but when jack being the carer shows an interest in ennis's life ennis begins to warm up to jack... and then all hell breaks loose when they got drunk one nite... as again it was weird if they were to share a tent to slp in... so ennis chose to sleep outside in the cold... jack being the caring guy asked ennis to get his butt in the tent... it was nth more than a caring gesture... but then when they snuggled up real close in the tent... it was then jack felt ennis's warm and hard body against his.. and then grab ennis's hand over his own body... ennis recoils at first and tot tis wasnt right at all...but then still gives in due to his own feelings being suppressed for a long time... it was the unconscious buildup of the relationship prior to this scene tat they realized tat this was wat lies in them for the rest of their lives..

ennis tells jack the next day tat this cannot be carried on.. cos he noes its wrong esp in the age of the sixties where homosexuality was condemned... but then again he couldnt suppress his emotions and went back to jack again the second nite.. there was alot of struggle when he approached jack.. but jack as always the carer reassures him tat its alright... its alright to release ur emotions and open up... and as they say the rest is history up on the mountain... but when their job was prematurely ended, ennis was ironically the one who couldnt let go of it.. imagine he being the one who keeps suppressing his emotions and he could oni let it out when alone or when no one's looking...

4 yrs go by and both guys built their own families... juz like hw society shd be... u grow up, get a decent job, marry and hv kids like everyone else..... but somewhere in the back of their minds, they still hv the memories of brokeback and of each other.... ennis marries an ordinary gal and leads an ordinary life wif 2 wailing baby gals... jack marries a spunky rodeo gal who's the oni heiress of a family biz in texas... but somehw jack managed to find ennis and u noe wat? even tho ennis is a full fledged family man nw he was real thrilled when he received jack's postcard sayin tat he will come visit him... on the day of the reunion, ennis puts on his sunday best and u can see hw nervous he was as he keeps lookin out the window to see if jack has arrived... juz like a young gal waitin for her new date to come pick her up... and when jack's truck pulls in ennis runs out like mad to the door and receives jack wif a BIG bear hug... and then all 4yrs of suppressed emotions were released when ennis pulls jack into a hidden corner of the house where he kisses jack like theres no tomorrow...

but then ennis's wife alma discovers the scene w/o them knowing and as hw we wd all normally react: damn shocked.... ennis then came into the house to intro jack to alma.. u can see hw flushed and excited both of the boys were after tat long overdue kiss.... and then they continued tis affair for the yrs to come.. citing fishing as their common hobby whenever they go away to cover their tracks... but as alma noes veri well.. the fishing rods tat ennis brought were always dry and the pails were empty since ennis claimed tat he ate up all the many fishes he got...

well u may be tinkin why dun they just run off and lead a life of their own?? well in the first place, its nt possible in tat time and age when u oni hv 2 men living all alone in an isolated cabin or ranch up on the mountain.. and second they hv their responsibilities... well tats wat ennis thinks... he cant simply forsake his family... he is the man and he has to provide for them... and esp since he grew up without a complete family all the more he wans to hv a family of his own... he cant possibly do tat wif jack... hw to hv a complete family like tat???? jack's the complete opposite tho.. as i said he's the dreamer.. willing to give up everythin to hv a life wif ennis... ennis tells him its impossible... the way tat homos are condemned and society wd nvr condone such acts.... jack is devastated.. he has all these great ideas to run a ranch wif ennis for the rest of their lives but ennis keeps pushin it away... jack is the giver, the one tats willing to sacrifice everything for his one true love...

i tink the scene tat probably touches one most is the rejection scene... when someone drives over 14hrs to come meet u after hearin tat u got divorced wif ur wife... but then u had to take care of ur children over the wkend hw could u possibly still hv a rendezvous wif him when ur kids need u? jack couldnt take the rejection and cries and even crosses over to mexico to look for temporary relief... someone who can gif him wat he needs for 1 nite... wat he always wanted all his life but could nvr hv it all the time.... jack has always been the giver.... but the oni time when he needs ennis the door was slammed hard on his face.... i guess tis probably relates to alot pple... when u need someone in ur life for juz a moment he was nt there 4 u...

well jack being the one true to his own feelings had a hard time dealin wif his luv for ennis and maintainin his usual manly role in society... the show took an easy way out for the both of them... haha nt tellin u the ending.. go figure.... all throughout the show jack showed his luv for ennis by stating he wanted to share a life wif him.. but ennis on the other hand couldnt.. but it was in the end tat ennis finally realized his one true luv.. the one he had always pushed away....its's always been ennis's reluctance tat constrained the r/s... but then it was too late.. to tell the person tat u luv tat u luved him....

haha sori for revealin almost the whole plot... but all the emotions in the show were unbelievable.... go catch the show if u still can or wait for the dvd... i noe most guys will cringe and cant really understand it or even appreciate as much as we gals do cos all they tink abt the show is tat its a gay movie... (but there were more straight sex scenes than gay sex scenes hahaha) but if u managed to read in bet the lines like i did (perhaps i am a 手心细腻的人吧 which means i am ultra sensitive)... the movie could really show a thing or two abt wat we experience in real life... the unbalance in the r/s we hv... our parents caring and sacrificing all they hv juz to raise us up but as kids, we hv no idea wat tat means to us.. until one day u realize it whenu r a parent urself.... in luv as well... when someone luvs u more than u luv him... or u dun luv tat person as much as u tink u do but then its too late...

haha its my first R21 show since my 4yrs into my adult life (surprisingly the tix man din check my IC but then again i guess i shdnt be surprised =p) but it has made a deep impression on me.... props up to the author of the book and to Ang Lee for filmin this show... haha khun joy... guess u wd be overly thrilled to read tis post of mine ;) hope there r more of this kinda films to come...

Hahaha.. Ming... u r right!~ I'm absolutely thrilled that u caught the show and that u liked it, as much as I did. Reading thru ur post most def brought me back much intense feelings abt this show. Just 1 more thing for me to add is that Ennis actually loved Jack very much, maybe more so than Jack, except that he kept suppressing it due to the dreadful memories of his childhood. I guessed in the end, he was "punished" for it.. for he had to live with that regret for the rest of his life...

Too much that I want to share on BBM with u but which cannot be squeezed within such a constrained space here.. hahaha... so let's continue this topic when I see u tmr, for KTV. Wait for me yo~ =D
