yup i'm back... hahhaa had some delay in putting up the prev post cos i was madly rushing to prepare for my trip to BKK and 4got all abt my blog juz b4 i left last wk... din wanna combine it wif the trip as it will be way too long... aniway yup felt very satisfied wif my shopping.. spent almost 300 sing bucks mainly in shopping and massages hahaha.... but its oni once in awhile so i guess nt too bad rite? =) aniway bear wif this post cos its loooong!
Day 1 (Thu)
managed to catch most of Casino Royale on the plane... guess the movie was quite short so i also caught a tiny bit of Jackie chan's recent baby movie... touched down ard lunchtime and we went str to the hotel to put our stuff down b4 heading for our 1st meeting at the Thailand Institute of Science and Tech Research.. it was pretty cool cos we got to see fr the outside, their fuel ethanol pilot plant which was built in the 80s on their compounds.. and a mini biodiesel pilot plant prototype... its amazing hw thailand has come so far on biofuels...
the institute pple were very kind to bring us out to dinner where we had really aroy (delicious in thai) food at this open but quiet concept hut on the river wif small ktv huts attached to the side of the restaurant.. candy couldnt really handle food tat is overspicy so we had less spicy food but some of it was still a little hot =) i din dare to take too much fearing tat i will fall sick esp when i still had runny nose the last few days... i luv pineapple rice so asked whether they had it but they din!!! tats really strange hmm....
aniway the institute's deputy director lady was really cute and bubbly.. during the dinner she was making fun of her biodiesel guy saying tat he always seems to be so quiet all the time but sings like a bird when they go ktv hahahhaa.... and then candy tried to be funny when she asked whether he was single and he said he was... and then she said i was too! pengz... yup kinda awkward cos the deputy director lady was "promoting" the guy sayin tat he has double masters in chem and mech eng and is going to pursue phd in the states... ya i noe he's smart and cute like a little boy (he same ht as me) but sorry i'm taken hahahhaa..... he reminds me a little of xu guan ying, an old time HK comedy star wif 2 other famous actor brothers....
she also said tat i looked like a thai if i walked on the streets, specifically those who reside in chinatown.... hahah ya dun u noe tat i am also japanese and korean all rolled into 1 and i come fr china??? hahahah guess i hv a truly representative asian look =)
Day 2 (Fri)
was a bz day wif 4 arranged meetings back to back.. first we went to visit a govt person at his office b4 meeting another govt contact at sofitel hotel for lunch... it was interesting cos we found out fr the 1st contact tat these 2 men were college classmates and they are wrkg under the same ministry! hahahhahaa too bad the 1st one couldnt join us for lunch cos it wd be quite interesting but aniway both r really nice pple! hahah i got these contacts by myself so really proud to hv known them... the food at the sofitel hotel was really good! there was a family celebrating a boy's 8 yr old bday at the table next to us and the boy even passed us a piece of his cake! cool huh?
after lunch we met wif a potential client and i was quite impressed with the co cos they had really young pple wrkg as managers and specialists aredi... there was this guy who was really cute (and i truly mean CUTE tis time) like he's some young star fr thailand wif the stylish hair, tanned skin and bright smile =) its a pity he din speak very gd english =p then our last meeting was wif the national oil company who's also our client... it was a little intense at this one cos they were too budget strapped to pay for our services so nt sure hw the big boss going to handle tat... hahah they said its impossible to pay a million baht for our services cos they oni earn in baht and nt USD....
one of the younger research ladies gave us a ride back to the hotel and she asked hw old i was cos i looked very young to her... hahhaa didnt my aunt think tat i was older than my elder cousin??? aniway she looked my age too but i found out she was aredi married! she was also really nice by providing insight on the shoppin and massage places for the wkend and sayin tat we can call her if we got lost... sweet aint she?
when we got back to the hotel, we got out of our wrk clothes and had dinner b4 heading down for some massages!! we were told tat the street behind the hotel had some massage places so we walked quite a bit to find one... but it was aredi after 10 at tat time and most of them were aredi closed... there was a big massage club wif many angmohs outside but we din go 4 tat cos candy tot it was rather seedy =) we finally found one tat oni closes at 12midnite and had a full hr of thai massage! boy it was so relaxing tat i couldnt open my eyes at all after the massage! hehehhee....
Day 3 (Sat)
yay its the wkend! time for some serious shoppin after a full slp till noon =) b4 i went shoppin by myself cos candy was strapped wif wrk, we wanted to hv lunch at one of the local places so walked outside for sometime b4 finding a thai chinese dim sum eatery... it was aredi after 2 so it was empty and boy, the food was really lousy!! the dim sum was really awful! we wanted to hv pineapple rice so asked whether they hv it and they din!!! hw come restaurants in thailand nt hv pineapple rice??? hahahaha....
went to MBK and its neighboring malls and got some stuff on behalf of my bro and bf... didnt buy much for myself here except mainly bags and jewellery... as usual the pple start talkin to me in thai cos they tot i was one hahahah.... when i was done shopping, i walked along the street flagging down many cabs but no one knew where my hotel was! stupid me 4got to get a hotel directions card fr the hotel staff.. so i sms candy who sent me the add of the hotel and luckily one cab driver knew where it was... when i got back we had dinner at the hotel's thai restaurant and told ourselves this time they shd hv some pineapple rice eventually, rite??? but the strange thing is tat there wasnt any either at this authentic thai restaurant either!!! gosh cant believe this... maybe oni pineapple rice exists in sg?? haha...
i went out wif candy again to hv another massage at the same place we went the prev nite and this time, we had an hr of oil massage! cos the 2hr one was almost a 1,000 baht and candy din wanna pay tat much hahahhaha.... candy's definitely addicted to daily massages at this pt and is looking at the option to get a thai maid and kick off her sri lankan maid so tat she can get massages all day! hahahhaha.... i guess i got addicted as well minus the pain plus the after-comfort =)
candy was really funny cos she was tellin me hw her maid was distracted at wrk all day cos she oni got married recently at 42 yrs old (wow!) so was still havin her honeymoon period... candy also talked abt her younger days where she attended pyjama parties and saw middle aged women going crazy over a young male stripper and even stripping along wif him!!!!! hahahahha really hilarious...
Day 4 (Sun)
also slept till late and had a quick swim.. it was quick cos i din really hv the energy to swim plus i was the oni asian among the pool of westerners either tanning or reading their books on the recliners so din wanna move ard too much hahahha.... and then i headed out to chatuchak wkend market to see if there was anything interesting... yup due to my bad experience the prev time, tis time i clutched my sling bag close to me =)
i felt really giddy when i was in there cos it was terribly stuffy, hot and overcrowded... definitely nt a nice experience for shopping... wanted to leave early but i managed to stay longer and bought more stuff for myself like t-shirts and jewellery... almost everythin was under 10 sing bucks so i felt really satisfactory buying so many things at cheap bargains =) missed the puppies i saw last time so tried searching for them but couldnt see them anywhere... altho i did see afew pple carrying tiny cute puppies in their hands... too bad =(
was sup to meet candy for a special dinner cum dance performance outside of the hotel.. estimated tat i had ample time durin the ride fr chatuchak but somehow the driver overshot and wanted me to drop off some dist after the hotel.. i said no and asked him to make a big round back to the hotel and he seemed quite reluctant... so when he passed by the massage place i decided to drop there instead and get a quick 1hr foot massage b4 i get back to the hotel to meet candy...
when the massage was over, i figured i had juz enuff time to get back to hotel as it was nearby but when i got into the cab, the driver went to the wrong place instead!!! sianz had to tell candy to ask them to wait for me cos we were stuck in traffic... but luckily when i got back, there were oni 2 of us going so i used the chance to put my stuff back and changed... the dinner we had was really aroy and the performance was the usual thai dance.. simple but pretty cool too...
Day 5 (Mon)
back to meetings again but mainly for the morn till lunch so going to be free in the afternoon =) had breakfast wif an ethanol producer and he was an interesting character who talked so much so tat we were 10min late for our 2nd meeting wif an oil company located on the outskirts of the city.. then came our last appt wif another govt contact and we wanted to meet him at our hotel for lunch.. i called him to say we would be late but he had a meeting in 1.5hrs time so we met him at his office instead...
after tat we got some lunch at the hotel and guess wat? we finally found and had some pineapple rice at the common dining restaurant!!!! well it wasnt the actual yellow tinted rice wif lots of pineapples u find in sg but the one they had was fried rice garnished wif pineapples etc... well better than nth i guess =) yup and then we got ourselves out of the hotel to the massage place again!!! well its for the last time since we were goin back the next day hehehhehee.... this time candy wanted to do 2hrs and i oni did 1hr cos wanted to take a look at the local night market...
yup went to suan lum nite market and it was quite diff fr wat i tot.. cos i tot it would be like sg where there are stalls which wd be overcrowded wif pple.. but it wasnt cos the stalls were seated nicely in small cubicles like the ones in the shoppin centers... and there werent tat many pple when i arrived so i could walk ard quite freely... bought more misc items here like ornaments, snacks as well as more jewellery =)
when i left i hopped into a cab and the driver drove off b4 announcing tat there was to be a fixed fee of Baht 160!!! crazy i knew i oni had to pay nt more than 50 by using the meter so i said no way and asked him to stop the cab... he din wanna stop and dropped the fee down to 100 baht instead... i still insisted he stop the cab and he finally relented by switching on the meter hahahhaa.... heng...
Day 6 (Tue)
yay final day liao... got up early to finish packing up cos we had a seminar to go to at shangri la which is located next to the chao phraya river... the seminar was held by a technology provider fr france who also happens to be our client... it was pretty small but audience-specific... was quite happy to see them using our products fully by using our references on their presentations... i saw tat they used the slides tat i made for asia region.. cool!! but i slept thru pretty much the rest of the seminar hahhaa...
had great dim sum lunch at the hotel's chinese restaurant.. nw tats wat i call authentic dim sum!!! we sat wif 2 cute french guys who were also part of the speaker panel... the cuter one who looked like a model was aredi married tho wif kids! wat a pity hahhahaha.... i greedily finished up the prawn dumplings and siewmai since no one wanted more =) we left the seminar early at 3pm to catch our flight in the evening... haha we tot we had to pay airport tax so set aside some cash for it but realized at the check in counter tat the flight agent aredi paid for us.. so we got more $ to shop! hhehehee....i mainly bought more snacks... caught the movie deja vu on the flight which's pretty gd! too bad i couldnt finish it cos it was longer than the flight so maybe can rent it sometime soon =)
yup so tat was it for BKK. had to go back office aredi the next day to finish up my proj and more interviewees coming our way... was sup to get up early to hv breakfast cum interview wif another prospective employee at conrad but i overslept and oni woke up at 8.30am when the meeting time was scheduled at tat same time! hahahhaha.... so had to sms candy to say i wun be joining them since tat guy had to leave in an hr's time..
when i reached office then came another employee for interview and since candy wasnt there i tok to him first lor... wow he was such a nice, presentable and friendly person tat i really liked him! he wouldnt really seem like a boss to me but more of a great team co-worker... he's got the managing experience and gone thru corporate models similar to ours but a pity nt in the rite industry...
another interviewee was sup to come at 2pm and the businessman interviewee whom we interviewed last wk was to come again to meet and tok wif us individually to get to noe each other better b4 we decide whether anot to employ him.... seems like the big boss kinda liked him but she and my ex boss both had concerns on whether he was too impatient and wd do things his own way... wow 2 of them were coming at the same time so we asked one of them to wait downstairs so tat they wun see each other hahahhahaa.... sounds as tho we were trying to avoid the situation of 1st wife meeting the 2nd wife =) and since candy and karen were having a private discussion at lunch, candy couldnt come back in time so me and kuntal had to split up bet the 2 men...
i tok wif this businessman interviewee and he asked me soooo many qns abt my job and wat i would like to see changed in the co etc... last time i felt as tho i was going thru an interview and nw it was as tho i am going thru job appraisal hahahhahaa..... he asked so many qns tat i couldnt stop to think and ask him things abt himself haiz... but karen did manage to do tat by askin him wat he tot of us and he said we were a young team... and karen hoped tat he din tink we were young and naive hahhahahaa.... hmm aniway still in abit of dilemma as to whether to go wif him cos there r some factors we r concerned wif altho he wd be a great team leader and salesperson... see hw it goes lor...
durin the BKK trip, candy told me more abt wat she tot of karen and kuntal.. kuntal's fresh, immature and inexperienced so he needs alot of guidance... abit of a mummy's boy when she saw him bring a lunchbox to japan which his granny prepared for him... hmm seems like candy luvs karen wif her bubbly nature and the way she handles clients and their queries... karen did mention to candy tat she found the field we were in BORING! hhahaha... well i guessed it - it wasnt becos she was slow in picking up the technical knowledge but rather, she simply had no interest in writing and compiling reports on the technical topics... so it seems like candy will place her in sales and events instead of helpin me wif my research..
and out of the few less prospective employees, i hv to interview 2 of them myself (since candy has aredi gone back home) soon to see whether they are interested and capable enuff to be in entry level job position to help me wif my tasks =) yup i guess i hv to start managing pple liao...
candy did divulge tat karen was overpaid.. even kuntal is overpaid too cos his salary was in USD... gosh seems like nw i'm the underpaid one! hahhahahaha... aniway candy didnt hv the chance to tok wif karen abt her contract but i guess most likely she will offer karen a base salary and hv a variable pay component coming fr sales commissions... hmm wonder if karen's going to accept tat cos we r doing our appraisals nw... frankly speaking u dun need 3 whole days to do follow ups wif sales rite?? basically u r oni making calls the whole time since i dun tink she will be allowed to travel... haiz dunno la juz hv a gut feeling the whole situation is somehow not rite...
